FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Basic Facts
Q: Why should I use Assay on Wheels®?
We bring honesty, transparency, and integrity along with a convenient and innovative process that benefits the client at all points of the transaction.
Q: What is an open pool?
An open pool is a transaction in which we take possession of your lot, but do not finalize the transaction or affix a price to your metal. You will still own your lot and can be compensated for it at anytime. When you decide to close your pool, the market price at that time will be applied to the transaction, and you will have your choice of payment method.
Q: What is a pin sample?
A pin sample is a core sample taken from a homogenous molten lot for determining the purity of the lot with the XRF analyzer.
Q: I’ve heard that melting results in total weight loss, why does this happen?
Weight loss will occur when zinc or other elements in the alloyed gold burns off. However, the precious metal will always remain in the crucible.
Process
Q: How long does the process take?
We offer the fastest and most accurate payout in the business. From the time you step on the van to payout, the entire process should take no longer than 30 minutes per bar; however, the lot size is the ultimate determining factor.
Security
Q: How secure is mobile gold buying?
All of our vehicles are armored, equipped with GPS tracking, and under constant video surveillance. Our employees are all trained and adhere to strict security protocols. All transactions are safe and secure from beginning to end.
Our Instruments (Metrology)
Q: How do I know the scale is accurate?
All of our scales are inspected and certified by the state or country they are used in. A certification sticker is placed on each scale by the inspector who examines it. In addition, before each transaction the scale’s accuracy will be verified in front of you using a calibration weight.
Q: What is an XRF and how does it work?
X-ray fluorescence is a non-destructive technique for normal assaying requirements. The XRF machine analyzes the surface of a sample taken from a lot to determine the purity of the specified element. Click

Q: How do I know the XRF is accurate?
The accuracy of the XRF will be verified in front of the client before any transaction is commenced using a calibration piece with known metal contents.
Services / Fees
Q: Do you offer Fire Assay or ICP?
We do not offer Fire Assay or ICP as an analytical service because of the time and equipment requirements; however, you are free to have your pin sample tested by a third party for verification of the XRF analysis of your lot.
Q: What payment methods are offered?
We offer cash, wire, check, bullion return, or pool account.
Q: What happens if I don’t like the results of the transaction?
If you are dissatisfied with the results at any point during the transaction we will allow you to keep your lot at no additional cost in order to check our results against a third party.
